No Pain, No Gain

My husband and I have decided that this will be the year for making positive changes.  We’ve been together since 2006… married since 2008.  After all these years of happiness, we have become noticeably comfortable.  That’s a nice way to describe the older, softer, rounder couple we’ve become.

I can’t really complain about the happy marriage and the comfort it has brought us.  Our first marriages were stressful for each of us, so we feel as if we lucked out the second time around.  However, I think such marital bliss has caused us to not try as hard to remain as physically fit as we were when we were single.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with dieting.  Of course, I love how I look and feel when I lose a few pounds, but I hate the work required to get there.  I’ve had gym memberships, diet plans, etc.  Life always interfered with my good intentions eventually, which made it easy for me to fall back into my old eating and exercise habits.  I was always cooking dinner for my family, which made it difficult to get excited about cutting calories for myself. And it was too hard to find time to exercise when I had so many baseball practices and games to attend.

Now that I’m not the family chauffeur anymore, and I only have to cook for my husband and me, we have decided to tackle the weight loss and fitness challenge once more.  This time, we have joined Weight Watchers and a local gym.  We are in it to win it, as they say.  We’re changing a lot of old habits, hopefully for good.  Since January, I’ve lost 12 pounds.  My husband has lost 21.  We’ve become regulars at the gym… and stopped being regulars at our favorite Mexican restaurant.
